South Eastern South
South Eastern South
South Eastern South is a real-time digital artwork by Lito Kattou that explores climate anxiety, ecological grief, and the growing threat of desertification across the southeastern Mediterranean. Created within a video game engine, the work presents the artist’s digital double alone in a barren, constantly shifting landscape.
The environment is connected to live temperature data from Nicosia, Cyprus, while its sun follows the actual cycle of day and night. As temperatures rise above 21°C, the character begins to whisper—transforming fragments of poems, songs, and personal notes into a haunting invocation for rain. Her voice becomes an act of mourning, resistance, and imagined repair in the face of irreversible environmental change.
